Guest post (by Ioana) – Blog Tour: The Impaler Legacy Omnibus by Ioana Visan

Insa mai intai, iata datele despre editia omnibus a seriei The Impaler legacy si linkul de Rafflecopter, unde 10 cititori vor putea castiga aceasta serie.

Print vs. eBook – What’s Your Opinion?

As a reader, my first serious encounter with ebooks took place about five or six years ago. There was one book that I just had to read, but it hadn’t been translated here yet and chances were it would take a while. Well, I wasn’t going to wait so I got it on-line. Mind you, I don’t even remember what that book was, however, what I do remember is going to bed with a headache after reading on the computer screen for half a day and my head still hurting in the morning.

I was reluctant to repeat the experience, but now and then I slipped and grabbed a book only to read for hours because I was bad at taking breaks while reading and still am. My tolerance increased in time, but it remained uncomfortable. Until I finally invested in an ereader. After that, that there was no going back for me.

Right now, I do maybe 70% of my reading on Kindle. I get the books I’m interested in as soon as they’re released or as soon as I find out about them. It means I do most of my reading in English, but that’s good practice since I also write in English.

I still buy printed books. Whenever I enter a bookstore, I can’t leave empty handed. These days, maybe half of my purchases are printed issues of books I’ve already read. I see them on the shelf, remember how great they were, and I just have to have them on my own shelves. I’ll soon have to build new ones, but that’s another story.

The funny thing is I rarely get to open them. If I’m looking for a quote or want to re-read an excerpt, I go to the computer and browse the book there. It’s easier and faster. I’ve got the hardcovers of Dune series (elegant covers) and A Song of Ice and Fire (awful covers) published by Nemira, and I haven’t opened them even once. They’re too big and heavy to handle. But they sit there on the top shelf, threatening to bring everything down, and I see them every time I go to sleep and when I open my eyes in the morning, and it makes me happy to know they’re mine.

So, maybe this is the future of publishing. You read a lot of books on various platforms and only buy a printed copy of the ones you truly loved. At least this is what I’m doing.

As a writer, particularly a self-published one, I follow a similar approach. I released my first two titles, Human Instincts and Blue Moon Café Series: Where Shifters Meet for Drinks, only as ebooks because I was still new to self-publishing and I needed to learn how the whole process worked, but also because of their novella-length size I didn’t think there was enough material for a whole book. I was proved wrong when the Romanian edition of Human Instincts came out as it made quite a decent book so that’s something worth considering for the future.

The Impaler Legacy series with all of its three novellas and three short stories took an entire year to publish it. Again, I didn’t hurry with a print edition mostly because of the same reasons, but once it became clear that this was going to be a series, the idea of an omnibus edition, both ebook and paperback, became suddenly appealing.

Now, a year after the first novella in the series was published, The Impaler Legacy Omnibus is out as an ebook, and the print edition should be released soon too. And since I have better knowledge of how this side of the business works, I’m flirting with the idea of releasing printed editions of the novellas, The Impaler’s Revenge, A Victory that Counts, and Order Restored, too. I know it seems I’m doing things backward since readers will rather buy the omnibus edition, but you know what? I don’t mind. I love those covers, and I need to have them on my shelf.

Interviu Tatiana Niculescu Bran

TNB: Am inceput sa scriu literatura printr-o intamplare, presupunand ca exista in viata omului si lucruri intamplatoare… M-am repatriat in 2004, dupa 8 ani petrecuti la Londra, in urma unui concurs prin care am devenit… CONTINUAREA AICI.
